FINALLY A CITIZEN

my pilates, s factor, yoga, jogging marathon has paid off, and i lost 10 pounds of fat! AND... now i'm nearing the snobbish couple*hun$skinny*designer*jean*club. i know it's rediculous, but hey, a girl gets tired of watching people trotting around town in their hot jeans, meanwhile i'm stuck wearing non designer jeans just cuz i had to go and get myself hitched 'n gain all that comfy "sorry i'm taken" weight. i still have a ways to go, but i check it out. and after only one month (well o.k. couple hours 3 x a week) i know... look at my but ha ha now i just gotta keep going...

well, i'm picking up new projects because i'm getting bored with what i'm doing. i wanna finish my skirt, felted bag (haven't posted pics yet, but am going to put a huge wonderful cute flower on it), hollywood knits style purse, fendi bag, boy's sweater (hey i'm married so no curses here) (but the thought of knitting boy stuff bores me to tears!!!!), apricot jacket (feb fix), chamonix pants JUST TO NAME A FEW. are you seeing a pattern here? YES!!! that's it!!! i have a hard time finishing projects. i suspect it's a similar thing as when i'm making a wedding gown for a client and i procrastinate the finishing details... something about not wanting to let the beautiful gorgeous thing out the door. hmmm same same, like they say in thailand. just don't want to let go. it's frustrating. anyone give me any tricks on how to trick myself into finishing? lemme know! well, guess i'll go knit on that cute chocolate thing or maybe attempt to finish my felted bag so i can have something to tote around my other billion projects i have. cheers ladies!

1.31.2005

well, i can't resist. i'm joining the candy knit-a-long.

the top is just so cute. hope it looks cute on me too. i think i'm going to use a bunch of different yarns for it. we'll see :)

1.16.2005

chocolate bliss

i've been working feverishly on my "eyelet skirt". it's coming along very well! i'm using debbie bliss cashmerino aran in chocolate instead of the denim called for on the knitty website. i may be two skeins short because i knit so loosely. there are two panels and each panel seems to be taking about 6 balls. the good news is i put down a skirt i LOVE on the floor and put it on top of it and it was the same size so at least i know i'm not wasting my time. i like the ruffly bottom. i'll have to wear it to my new fabulous yarn related job as soon as i finish. yep that's right! i did it! i landed a fabulous yarn related job and i'm sooooo happy to go to work and work around fun people who are just as yarn obsessed as i am. (well, maybe i'm a little more) ;)

curb your enthusiasm

wow, i just added up all the yarn purchases i made last year with a few books (but i'm sure not all) thrown in there. it has created a real freeze in my spending as it came out to nearly fifteen hundred dollars. the only consolation is i added up how much i would have spent in cigarettes if i was still a smoker. that came out to about twelve fifty, so i'm only off by a few hun. notice how i can only spell these amounts out and not write them in their actual numbers. i think it takes the edge off somehow. somehow sounds (looks) better. it's crazy to see how nickeling and dimeing yourself can really add up. maybe i'll be strict about using all my yarn in my stash and not buying more. hope so. yarn diet here i come.

1.15.2005

it's my birthday and i'll knit if i want to. :D

1.09.2005

here's a few pictures of my trip to copenhagen, denmark. it was chilly there. (and so was the weather :P) if there are any cool people from denmark, be sure and sign my comments section... the design was beautiful there and textilhuset is my favorite fabric store. i visited one yarn store but didn't get a photo, i did knit at this way cute chrarity shop/thriftstore/cafe (butik fisk, krystalgade) which was one of the highlights of my trip, i was invited to a knit together on sunday but sadly that was the day i flew home. i bought a cashmere sweater that has a somewhat large ply so i'm going to frog and reknit it. even though i looked and the needle size will need to be size 1. oh well, maybe next year i'll be finished with it :)

beauty

gorgeous!

all the girls wear cute coats, cute scarves, cute boots and ride cute bikes!

caught this ad on a bus of woman knitting in a hurry, not sure what it says.

my british airways stitch markers : )

all in all an interesting trip. had 3 days stop over in london. my favorite place on earth.

i took a picture of the splendor and the glory we woke up to this morning. both coco and hana were enjoying it fully!

i even took a screenshot of my pixie to commemorate our minute of snowy weather.

12.30.2004

i just ordered my red cross commemorative knit kit well, actually i ordered two, for the disaster relief fund and i'm going to donate more money directly to the Tsunami relief fund. this organization will actually get the donations directly to the people who need it and not to the military who have continued to do sweeps of villages and are withholding donations and sometimes selling them. wow, and we were just in thailand in september. crazy! this area of the world has the nicest people on earth. i'm truly shocked.

12.22.2004

hana has decided to take over one of my knitting project bags. i use old zippy bags you get when you buy luxury sheets for my knitting project bags. pillowcase ones work well for all my knitting tools. last one i got says "nicole miller" on it, cool.

hana decided to chew the christmas tree this year. she really hates holidays!

11.18.2004

i think i just need to stop (in the name of yarn)

take a deep breath

and stop... buying... yarn. there i said it.

suuuuuuuure, after i get that elann yarn i wanted. ughhhh!

sob sob, i'm having a paris loop tragedy. (hee hee) i bought the yarn all the way from germany because it's DISCONTINUED! a month later it came and ugh! it looks like spider bodies! ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww! (got the jeans color) so i started making out of plassard versatile color 008 which looks like colinette point 5 but costs 1/2 as much and it's from gay paree. i got tricked into buying more and more because of the 54 yards crap. anywhoooooooo i got it almost finished and yuck bleck yuck yuck yuck it's awful! i look like the cookie monster. paris loop=football shoulders cuteness! it's a terrible color for a poncho (which i'm totally sick of by the way) and ooooooooooooohhhh i thought it'd be sooooooo cute on me. not! anyways. after all that time spent knitting (3 days worth) boooo hoooo

oh, and this is the kicker! since yarn "A" didn't work out (cicco "jeans") i ordered 4 black, 4 pink and 4 green from germany and they're on their way! blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh haaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaa 5 million dollars later, i'm going insane. i think this election has sent me to the nuthouse. i'm all over the place, starting a new project everyday. i have so much energy built up. i can't get no, bla dun dun, yarn satisfaction... when i'm driving in my car and i'm knitting at the stop-a-lights and a man comes on the radio and he's telling me more and more about some useless non yarn related information...

back to the drawing board. (insert the sound of ripping out freshly knit project)

11.16.2004

just finished my rowan hat. i knit it at the library while reading a book. this was fun and i'll have to do it more often.

this hat was very fun and VERY fast to knit. it's all knit rows with some slips and purling the slips. there was also knitting through the back loop. those were all new to me but i feel more comfortable and got into a zone while knitting it. i knit this hat 3 times. first too loose (made it huge) second used smaller needles and came out too small. third time back to needles it called for but knit tighter. JUST RIIIIGHT...

i like the way the slips turn it into a crown. now i'm queen of my cotton candy knitting castle.

on to the next project...

11.15.2004

how cool. i just walked into the yarn gallery and the owner was like "hey, aren't you that famous lady in the stitch n bitch nation book" and i was like "what?" and she was like "your picture is in stitch n bitch nation book along with a write up" she showed it to me. how cool i'm really in there. only cuz i'm really obsessed w/knitting. i think about it day and night.

now only to get published patterns. i'm working on it. :P

11.05.2004

this is how i feel

this is what i'm making (hat)

out of this yarn (it's 1 of a kind handspun hand dyed from weavers guild party)

10.09.2004

i know i haven't written in a while. i've been to far away places where they don't use yarn (or at least i didn't see any)

where the beaches are sandy and the mosquitos eat you alive

we went to longislandresort.com (where they filmed temptation island) and kulaypan.com these places were amazing. i say we've been samui-ized.

i finished my rebecca sweater. i'll post a picture of it shortly. i'm going to make a black one too. i'd like to knit the sleeves again because even though i knit them both twice, they're still a little larger than i'd like.

i know, pics pics pics. i'll get on it. o and sorry for the broken pics on the site, i cut my yahoo habit and changed web hosters so i've been having to raw ftp it up, no more easy beasy interface to do it, so it's been slow going. not to mention i think i left in a little bit of a haste and may have forgotten to copy some of my pics from one domain and may have lost them. it's ok. i'm wanting to redo the whole thing anyways.

so what's been up with all of you?

7.14.2004

hi ya'll (no i'm not suthern but my mommie was born in birmingham, alabama--but she was raised in the nw so she had no accent... but mysteriously i've been diggin my dixie chicks cd) Anywayyyyyyyyys, hi ya'll, i've been out of commission for a while. i've been sewing up a STORM. you see in my real life i make gowns for a living and boy o boy is it my busy time.

(ok, ok, i been sneakin in some time to knit
this. i have 2 fronts and a back and am gittin ready to knit two sleeves at once, YEE HAW!!! i'm so excited!!! )

oh yeah, work. anyways it's 11pm pst right now and i have ONE MORE CHONG SAM DRESS TO MAKE and then i can sleep. see i was supposed to sleep during the day today, but i just putzed around instead and now i'm am HELLA sleepy and don't want to make another chong sam dress, i just want to sleep. boy it's REALLY difficult to work for yourself sometimes. i'm so frickin tired. it kinda reminds me of finals at university when i used to stay up really late to cram and then take the test the next day. some of my BESTEST work ever has been made by severly procrastinating. i think i'm going to have to get schooled in time management or sumpin because this is starting to effect my daily life in a malificent way. (is that a word? if not i just made it up) i'm going to look it up, just a sec... not really a word i think but the name of some disney character.

here's malificent:

anyways my point is, there's soooooooooooo much i want to do and i just don't feel like i use my time very efficiently. for instance i'd like to get all my ducks in a row concerning my blog, but by the time i try and blog i'm just exhausted. anyways. thanks for listening. c ya later knitty kitties.

allow me a minute to whine, my progress bars broke because the person who's site i referred to from another person took down her site so i have no progress bars, they're in shambles. (damsel in distress) can someone help me by giving me some code i can use to put up progress bars again. and maybe some code that i can make proprietary instead of having to rely on someone else's site or images and such. i'm sure someone knows of what i speak. thank you so much <3 ya!

6.04.2004

i've finished all 4 panels of my "no sweat" pants knitted in jaeger chamonix. i swear i don't put my cat in all the pictures, as soon as i put knitted items on the floor, hana ALWAYS comes over to see what i'm doing. she'd be a designer if she was a person.

5.18.2004

look what jumped out of my head this weekend.

it's extra special cuz it has sparkles and it took a day or so to knit and i even knit some of it at the theatre during eternal sunshine of the spotless mind which is a really good movie. kate winslet rocks! i wub my poncho!

4.28.2004

cathy and i have been churning out the knitting (of course not fast enough for me), so here's my finished poncho. i really like it, it's fluffarific and reversable (has a V in the back). i double stranded it with novelty and cotton yarns and used size 15 needles. i ripped it 5 times so it was 4 other things before it became this poncho. i'm very happy how it turned out. now i'm working on my no sweat pants. it's just not going fast enough for me. can anyone help me get one of those progress graphics with javascript so i can put up all my works in progress. thank you so much. that's my friend cathy in the pic. she and i are knitting obscessed.

4.26.2004

i just finished my pippi kneestocking. i have one more to go. i'm so excited. it fits me perfectly, but that's probably because i knit them on two circulars and could try them on as i went. highly recommended. i started this sock as my second project ever (after a few scarves) and i feel sentimental about it because the top includes feelings of complete confusion and dismay and the toe shows my progress over the last 4 months or so of learning to knit. so i will always wear them with fondness. and hana likes them too. off to the second one.

4.08.2004

this is my fuzzy fendi (rowan lulu bag) out of rowan bigwool baby blue

i have a yarnstore in my closet:

yarn with daisies... can't stand the cuteness!

hey mom, get my good side.

i'm ignoring you mom...

did someone say food?

debbie bliss cashmerino aran "eyelet skirt" from knitty

it's going to have pink silk polkadot lining and maybe some pink tulle at the bottom where the eyelets go.

frufarific!

here's what it looks like on knitty

mmmm chamonix

these are my "no sweat pants" like i'd ever put acrylic next to my nicely shaven, mineral salt & maple sugar scrubbed legs. hee!

mmm bell epoque...

4.07.2004

pippin along

oh my gosh, can you stand the cuteness?

i didn't put the bow on her i swear! it was my husband, he likes to do funny things like that.

hana says, "happy easter all u internet people"

we don't really celebrate holidays silly. but what a cute bow.

what are you kids up to?

hubby says their eyes make them look like little aliens. i'm an eyes person. my kids (cats) have the prettiest eyes on earth.

fuzzarific

my hollywood knits bag
made from lambs pride bulky in lotus pink
and 4 strands at once of katia mohair in the most lucious green color.

i block with bamboo skewers.

i got the idea from an ad in a knitting mag that sold these metal things specifically "designed" for blocking and i was like heck, why not bamboo skewers. saves lots of time and you don't have to bother with so many pins.
cheapalicious!

3.25.2004

oh, ya wanna hear the funniest thing on earth! i just got in a car accident the other day and was like 1-2 seconds from being killed, and guess what the FIRST thing that i thought about after i got home and realized how close to death I was-- yep, "but i haven't even knitted everything i've wanted to knit yet" ha hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!

that's so frickin funny to me that the first thing i thought about was knitting, hillarious

it was so funny, as soon as i got home and was still like stunned from the crash (totally unscathed but totalled my car) i was like (in a kinda donna reid/slash/stepford wives kinda voice), "gosh, i really have to get to the thrift store and find a cashmere sweater i can frog so i can make something from it." isn't that hillarious? aren't you guys just dying laughing??? i am. anyways, i feel like my life has changed and i need to seriously appreciate more because i've been driving for like 16 plus years and never once had an accident and totally thought i was invicible well now i'm severely humbled by the whole thing, but laughingly know where my priorites lie ...yarn...husband...the kids(cats)hee hee

2.13.2004

1.13.2004

hooray

i found a sock calculator good luck!

get all the help you need on socks from knitter's review

aright, we've all established

that i'm a knitting cheapo, but hey, this crap is expensive... so i was shopping at urbn and i had this BRILLIANT idea. if you are hard up for yarn like me and can't afford hundreds of dollars just to make a sweater or leg warmers, then go to your local thrift store, pick out a sweater in good condition and frog it and use the yarn for your next project. as long as you find something that's in good condition (minimal shedding), the color you like, the yarn is bulky or chunky weight, and of hi quality natural fibers, you should be good.

online i found something that said to wrap a newspaper around one handheld mixer prong, tape it, and then tape the beggining of the sweater frog to the magazine and hit go on the mixer and you have an automatic frogger. hee hee sounds fun, i'm going to try it.

sorry peeps

i can't show you a picture of trisha's scarf yet, cuz i submitted the pattern to knitty. please oh please oh please pick up my pattern, knitty, i wanna be a knitwear designer and have my name in lights. hee hee

keep coming back to see whether or not they took it.

1.09.2004

someone please stop me. i've gone completely mad. o.k. this is the last project i'm picking up this week

it's phildar aurore sweater so very lovely. can't wait!

1.07.2004

here's the beginning of my sock. after one false start on size 4 circulars (see coco wearing it below) which made it too big, it's going pretty good. i'm knitting the ribbing on size 3 dpns because i'm not rich and i didn't have size 3 circulars and i wasn't ABOUT to go spending any more money on these $62 dollar socks. so after i get done with the ribbing, i'm going to switch to soaring circulars.

i'd like to take this moment to encourage any of you out there in cyber land to take up sock knitting if not just once. i'm a COMPLETE beginner and if i can do it then anyone can. it just LOOKS complicated, but so far so good. there, that's my motivational speech for today.

tip

the cutest online yarn store

luv that little lamb and they have GREAT pictures of yarn.

tip

el cheapo stitch markers: cut colored straws into little rings and use dem. wow! i'm such a cheapo, i love it.

knitter's review rocks!

here's how to make a bracelet that counts rows:

1.03.2004

if you're not loaded
cuz needles are expensive here's something i found on about.com

by Clarissa Pardon
Make Your Own Needles

I found a great way to get the size needles I want with out shelling out big bucks. I buy the miniature dowel rods, in an assortment of sizes (for about a buck a bag) and take them home and sharpen in my electric pencil sharpener. Why pay up to 50 bucks on needles that I could get a whole set and range of sizes for only five?

also: don't forget to rub your dowels with beeswax (you can use part of an old candle sitting around) and rub it in with a cloth. this will make your new knitting needles slick like bamboo ones. also you can put a rubber band at the end to keep the yarn on or sharpen both sides for double pointed needles.

1.02.2004

cubbie bubbie
here's my petit bebe. iwubba him. his name is coco

that color in the background is what i was hoping my yarn would be. (not)

ribbit for her pleasure.
just tested a swatch for my pippi longstocking socks. it came out perfect 6.5 stitches/inch just like the recipe called for. that was my first ever try at a swatch. i'm using size 4 addi turbo circulars (2 pairs), the book "socks soar on two circulars" and reynolds lite lopi and cascade yarn #220. the lite lopi looked fuschia when i bought it but when i got it home it was red (darn, i hate red.) here's a pic:

i may take it back today and exchange it for fuschia. i frogged the swatch because i'm conservative (cheap). well, i mean come on, $62 for socks and hell ya i'm gonna frog the swatch.

12.30.2003

stuff i'm currently working on:
i have many projects going on in my head which i'm sure has attributed to my faux add. (see i don't really have add, just a short attention span as a result of the over abundant amount of choices facing me on a daily basis as an average american--ha ha, see, not my fault) anyways, i'm currently designing a shoulder cozy similar to glampyre's except different yarn (black katia mohair blend--one of my favorites) and a different design (cuz i'm not using circulars on this).

picture of glampyres shoulder cozy:

second project:

stitch n bitch's "pippi kneestockings" socks on (guess what) CIRCULAR NEEDLES!!!! no frickin way? yep i'm going to give them a stab (no pun intended) i'll be once again using my own yarn and designing them based on stitch n bitch's knee socks. lemme see if i can find a picture:

wow, that came straight from the designer's blog, her name is theresa v. stenrsen. mine will of course be different cuz they won't be all stripy, i just had to use her pattern as a base because it's the only KNEESOCKS pattern i could find in a short amount of time. see i love kneesocks and i don't see how one could waste their time knitting those dinky little socks. if they don't come to the knee then i don't wear them. These are the infamous $62-not even frickin cashmere socks. $ spent on socks and supplies

in case you haven't noticed, i'm very opinionated and also very WILD!!!! i hate using the yarn recommended, which is why i probably need to buy the book "knit it your way" by cynthia yanouk wise--and wise she is!!!

all this wildness stems from being a clothing designer. yep, that's my real live adult day job, so i'm pretty wild in thinking that i can design my own knitwear with whatever yarn i want to. I'm going to be referencing the vogue ultimate knitting book and keeping gauge issues in the forefront and knitting swatches for EVERYTHING.

and my last project for now will be:

the uber snobbish "cape mod" poncho in the stitch n bitch book by melissa lim. she's an AWESOME designer

o.k. oh my gosh gotta go, gotta get busy on all this stuffins.

hi, my name is
nichole and i'm a knitaholic. i spent roughly 6 hours in the lys today (hey it was my first time visiting...) broken up by an appointment for accupuncture, and $62.00 on stuff for a pair of SOCKS!!! and they ain't even cashmere socks. my girlfriend thinks that i may have a problem and that i need an intervention. i would tend to agree. all i can say is "hey, at least i ain't spendin it on cigarettes anymore" o right! ... yeah, i know... queen of d nile.

12.27.2003

keep those things away from me :)
lastnight, a girl from the seattle stitch n bitch and i got together and knitted in a pool hall/bowling alley. we had some laughs and she taught me about circulars and i kept shuddering at the though of using them.

she showed me some angora and wool she got HUGE quanities of for about $20 at stitches west. it was soooooooooooooo soft! .looks like i'm going to have to go. i'm a huge fan of natural fibers. this comes from being trained in fibers at fashion design school. i used to be a total polyester whore because i was a dancer and that was most comfortable, WHAT WAS I THINKING? there's nothing more comfortable than natural fibers. it breathes! I told her that if i had some angora like that, i'd probably make some boyshorts. she laughed at me. we had fun. then i took her to a dance place that plays world beats mixed with drum & bass and she was excited to discover a place like that. she loved it. i tried to knit in there too, but it was WAY too dark and i couldn't do it. i told her we're going to have to bring our own lamp to these dark bars so we can knit. hee hee

the waitress at the bowling ally kept walking by us and saying things like "you guys are having a stitch n bitch" she had obviously read the book, it was great.

faster than a speeding bullet
Trisha's scarf is done. We bought this smoked turkey in the mail from Texas and I hope her scarf doesn't smell too much like smoke because that thing smells very strong. I'm going to have to toss the box and bag it came in because it's smelling up my whole house. I'm going to have to wrap up all my precious (yarn) (yea, gollum) so it doesn't take on christmas turkey smoke smell.

Anyways, her scarf came out beautiful and expensive looking :).

scarf gives girl power
I'm knitting one more of my super expensive looking scarves for Trisha for Christmas. I already bought her a christmas present, but as i said, i'm obscessed with knitting. so i feel she really needs one of my expensive looking scarves. Really i just want all the girls in the group to have one so it can be like our trademark. Hers is dark red, like a maroon color.

oh, i forgot to state that our scarves are of mohair (blend). It's super lucious and very expensive looking-did i mention? ha ha

i will have u, yes i will have u, i will finda way and i will have u
i'm obscessed with knitting. as my first project, i've done two scarves so far. one for me and one for kelly. they're exactly the same except mine is pink and super long and hers is white and almost super long, they both have tassles. i'll post pics soon. i think it came out spectacularly expensive looking and i'm very proud. i'm thinking of submitting them on knitty cuz i'd love to see them in lights. hee hee
