thanks for the link to the sock calculator -- have you tried it yet? once I get some projects out of the way, I am planning on teaching some friends how to knit socks -- hopefully this calculator will help us customize a pattern for our individual measurements. I also liked your idea about using dowels and the pencil sharpener for diy knitting needles!
